Title: Bringing Back White Lake the Beautiful
Description: Bringing Back White Lake the Beautiful is a short story of the pollution and recovery of White Lake, in northern Muskegon County, Michigan. White Lake was designated a Great Lakes Area of Concern in 1985 due to its industrial and municipal pollution, one of 43 in the Great Lakes. This qualified the lake for a special cleanup program to advance restoration. Members of the community worked for decades under this program with state and federal partners, and were successful when in October 2014, the lake was officially delisted as a Great Lakes Area of Concern.
The work is not done. There are still ongoing issues to monitor and there will be new issues to address in the future. Stewardship and protection of White Lake will continue. We hope you enjoy watching the video, learn from it, and become inspired by our success story. The most important lesson we learned is that citizens can make a difference! A big difference!
